Everyone is riding an Animal
Just as every God or Goddess
originally was manifested as a creature.
In Ancient India, China, Greece; Around the planet
The deities were once totemic
The Ancestor Animal Spirits of primeval times
And as time flowed the Gods and Goddesses took on human forms
And their Animal (or Plant) Powers
Became their Symbols or Vehicles;
The Emperor of Heaven rides a Dragon
Shiva rides Nandi the Bull
Durga rides the Tiger, Murugan the Peacock, Ganesh the mouse (ouch!)
Dionysus the Bull, Hecate the dog, Odin the Wolf and Raven
In Egypt, some kept their vehicles as part of form;
Horus the hawk, Thoth the Ibis, Hathor the cow
And so on, and so on;
Today I am a monkey
(Jai Hanuman)
But tomorrow I may be a serpent or a wolf or an eagle
My Atavism is mine to manifest
Or, like most, I could allow them to erupt.
Tonight I saw clearly that everyone I meet is manifesting an animal spirit
The asshat on the highway is an angry pit bull
The helpful hostess a crane
A student is a silly otter and another a studious serpent
How is this possible?
Each of us contains all the archetypal animal spirits
They reside in our lower cortex, our ‘Dragon mind’
As we grow in the womb
We grow through all of them
They erupt when we need them
To help us fight like a wolf
Flee like a gazelle
Or soar like a hawk.
So the question I should ask is this;
What animal spirit am I today?
What vehicle do I choose to be?
Which deep down-my-DNA critter need I access
To do my Will with Love?
This is a deep mystery and one that ties us all together
It is a key to the divine and it seems this;
The Group Unconscious Mind is a rowdy Zoo!
